Obverse : Crowned Head of George VI to left in low relief in the center. Legend GEORGE VI KING AND EMPEROR OF INDIA. broken by the crown, within dot circle along periphery with raised rim.
Reverse : A Talipot palm in the center dividing the numerals 5 0 . ශත පණහ in Sinhala on right, ௫0•சதம் in Thamil on left. Above CEYLON in scroll, Below CENTS and • year • within dot circle along periphery with raised rim.

Initials P M of designer Percy Metcalfe have been omitted by the Calcutta die sinkers.

The 1943 proof in Nickel Brass of this old design was not issued for currency. It has Pridmore Type 1 (no vertical lines between dots) Security edge.
Remick catalog says 6 copies known of this Fifty cents proof only issue.
The Dick Ford collection (in Taisei-Baldwin-Gillio Auctions #19 Ceylon 1995 February 23. Singapore lot#237) sold for hammer price of US$650/-.(+10% buyers premium).
