Netherlands East Indies: West Friesland VOC Ducatoon 1739
Netherlands East Indies: West Friesland VOC Ducatoon 1739 Silver (Delmonte 1061)
This piece had a weight of 3 1.8844 grammes, i.e., almost one gramme
below standard; the specific gravity at 10.37 is slightly low, giving
a fineness of silver, 925-935 parts per 1,000 instead of
941 0/00. Some characteristic defects are: obverse (1) raised
striations on the table between the knight's sword and his right
shoulder and arm, (2) the knight's sword and body are defective;
reverse (1) raised striations above the `7' and the `3' and below the
`9' of the date numerals and another running from the base of the `N'
of `CONCORDIA' , (2) the animals either side of the shield hardly
resemble the leopards they are supposed to be and even on very worn
coins their head, neck and chest never form a single straight
line. This could be a dangerous counterfeit.
