Lady and Svastika - Series 2

A rare struck plaque which is much wider and has elephant symbols relatively much larger on either side of Lady on obverse and a railed Svastika atop a pedestal with a ship-like shape on the reverse.

Obverse : .Lady standing with hands upraised from elbow over head and the two elephants on either side from lotus at knee level are relatively larger than normal.

Reverse : Railed Svastika, rotating right (Clockwise). Svastika mounted on a staff on horizontal line base with four vertical lines rising from it, on an elaborate pedestal structure under the rail taking the form of a ship. Triangular pennent-like symbol to the left and (right).

Five coins of this type and size are illustrated in the 1999 catalog Ruhuna. An Ancient Civilisation Re-visited by Bopearachchi and Wickramasinhe, Plate 15, H.72-H.76.
H.72 is from Anuradhapura and the rest including this coin Plate Specimen H.75 are from Akurugoda.
