Obverse : Crowned Head of George VI to left in low relief in the center with Engraver initials P.M. in relief on the truncation of the shoulder. Legend GEORGE VI KING AND EMPEROR OF INDIA broken by the crown, within dot circle along periphery with raised rim.
Reverse : A Talipot palm in the center with සතය in Sinhala on left, சதம் in Thamil on right, within inner circle. • CEYLON • ONE • CENT • above, and year below in annulus within dot circle along periphery with raised rim.

The figures above from Royal Mint Report. The year on the coins in order executed is not given in the Royal Mint Report of 1939.
It has been associated with the 1940 issue by Pridmore(1961), and Remick(1968) under the assumption it was part of that order, and 1937 issue by Robert Harris(1970).

In 1942 September 8th, it changed to a thinner low relief coin of half the weight to conserve metal for war and an unknown fraction of the 1942 issue listed above are of this type.
