The coin first issued on 4th February 1978 was made from a special die these 2600 coins are slightly different from those on the balance of the order put into circulation later in 1978 The most noticeable difference is that the President's right shoulder is straight in the rare coin shown on right while in the standard coin shown above it curves upwards.
The 20,000 Proof coins from the standard coin die were included in the set of eight 1978 Sri Lanka proof coins issued by the Royal Mint.
The coins were scanned at 300 dpi and the images are displayed at 254 dpi.
The uncirculated commemorative coin was obtained from the Central Bank
of Ceylon.
