A commemorative two rupee cupro-nickel coin was issued by Central Bank of Sri Lanka for circulation in July 2001 to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Colombo Plan.

Obverse : At the center the official logo of the Colombo Plan with theme PLANNING PROSPERITY above and TOGETHER in two arcs only in English within a plain circle. කොළඹ ක්‍රමය in Sinhala on top கொழும்புத் திட்டம் in Thamil on right and COLOMBO PLAN on left with the period 1951 - 2001 at bottom, within a circle of dashes along periphery with raised rim.
Reverse : The large numeral denomination 2 with big රුපියල් දෙකයි in Sinhala, and smaller இரண்டு ரூபாய் in Thamil and TWO RUPEES superimposed and year of issue 2001 at the bottom. The country name ශ්‍රී ලංකා in Sinhala, centered on top, இலங்கை in Thamil on left and SRI LANKA on Right. All within circle of dashes along periphery with raised rim.

The cupro nickel coin has been minted to the existing standard Rs. 2/- in circulation and has identical reverse side.

I thank Shehan Patterson of HSBC for obtaining this coin for me from the Central Bank and sending me the nice 600 dpi scan which I compressed to 300 dpi and have displayed at 254 dpi in reverse video to highlight the detail on this reflective brilliant uncirculated coin.
