Certificate states that this coin was recovered off the wreck of the British East Indiaman Joanna which sank on 8 June, 1682. She was on route to Surat in the East and was wrecked on the southern most tip of Africa, Cape Aqulhas with the loss of twenty four lives. In November 1982, the wreck site was relocated.
