SRI LANKA - Fifty Cents

A definitive decimal currency Fifty cent copper-nickel coin. In 1982 the Security edge was replaced with a Milled edge. In 1996 the metal changed to an Nickel plated Steel coin reflecting its diminishing value.

Obverse : The Armorial Ensign of Sri lanka within circle of dots along periphery with raised rim.
Reverse : The large numeral denomination 50 with big සත පනහ in Sinhala, and smaller ஐம்பது சதம் in Thamil, and FIFTY CENTS below and year of issue at the bottom, with traditional Sinhala Liyavela art on either side, and country name ශ්‍රී ලංකා (Sri Lanka) in Sinhala, centered on top. All within circle of dots along periphery with raised rim.

From 1996 the Fifty Cent was issued as a Nickel Plated Steel coin which in appearance and weight looks identical to this Cupro-Nickel issue it replaced, except being 15% thicker and attracted by magnets.

The coin was scaned at 600 dpi and the images are displayed at 300 dpi.
