In 2005 Rs1000/- worth was packed in large polythene bags with a White paper label encased on top with SRI LANKA - 50 Cents - 2000 Pieces in three lines. A small white paper sticker gave total weight, Date and time of production with operator and consec number.
The same diameter but 30% thinner and 23% lighter than the older 25
cents which is 3.24 grams. Since coins appear to get sorted by
diameter, I suspect that this 50 cent coin will mix in with the older
25 cent coins if it circulates
sufficiently to become black by corrosion or dirt.
See Article for more details
on this issue of lighter and smaller coins in 2005.
See Article for details on the scarcity
of the 2009 Year coins in circulation.
The coin was scaned at 600 dpi and the images are displayed at 300 dpi.
