A definitive decimal currency Fifty cent Nickel plated Steel coin which in 1996 replaced the Cupro Nickel coin and in 2005 was replaced by smaller copper plated Steel coin in reflecting the diminishing value of the coin.

Obverse : The Armorial Ensign of Sri lanka within circle of dots along periphery with raised rim.
Reverse : The large numeral denomination 50 with big සත පනහ in Sinhala, and smaller ஐம்பது சதம் in Thamil, and FIFTY CENTS below and year of issue at the bottom, with traditional Sinhala Liyavela art on either side, and country name ශ්‍රී ලංකා (Sri Lanka) in Sinhala, centered on top. All within circle of dots along periphery with raised rim.

This 1996-2004 Nickel Plated Steel Fifty Cent is in appearance and weight identical to the older Cupro-Nickel coin it replaced, except being 15% thicker and attracted by magnets.

The 1996 50-cent issue was minted in the Royal Canadian Mint, according to a the Coin Indent records from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

The coin was scaned at 300 dpi and the images are displayed at 300 dpi.
