For the First time since Modern Series of Lankan coins were issued in 1963 the Sinhala, Tamil and English text on the coin is the same and and with equal Font size.

In 2009, Rs10000/- worth was packed in large polythene bags with Printed in Black SRI LANKA - 10 RUPEE - 1000 Pieces in 3 lines.
It is 2.2% smaller, %5% thinner and 7% lighter then the older Bimetallic 1998 commemorative Rs 10 coin which remains legal tender. Of 50 Million minted, 44 Million of them were in circulation at end of 2009.
Coins were issued to replace the Rs1/- note in 1963, Rs 2/- and Rs5/- notes in 1984. The last currency note with Rs1/- Rs2/- Rs5/- and Rs10/- dated 1963, 1979, 1982 and 2006.

They were released in time for the Sinhala and Thamil New Year on April 14th when analysis of currency in circulation in Sri Lanka shows a sharp peak every year.
The coin was scaned at 600 dpi and the images are displayed at
300 dpi. It was obtained from CBSL on 2010 April 6th.
Just over 2 years later the CBSL dropped the Nickel plating and
issued Steel Rs10 coins Minted
in Slovakia.
